Every great invention is made to meet the requirement of something lacking.
The cat-eye-style glasses were also designed to meet the demand for the lack of appealing eyewear options for women in the 1930s. They were designed by Altina Schinasi which was adopted by an eyewear boutique in New York.
Ever since there were various tweaks made in the design of cat-eye glasses. The original design was meant for prescription glasses but soon Hollywood trends redesigned cat-eye glasses to cat-eye sunglasses. From Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana had adored this girl boss style and gave away remarkable fashion statements.
With each era from 1930 to 1970 interesting tweaks were given to the original design. 1940’s cat-eye followed a rectangular twist with thick frames. In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe flaunted sharp-cornered cat-eye glasses in her movies. From the 1960s onwards the design became larger and even saw a large round cat-eye trend.
In the same period of time, the cat-eye trend was also adopted by the Indian market and this powerful women design was flaunted by none other than the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Soon after Bollywood beauties like the most beautiful actress, Madhubala flaunted her chic look in cat-eye sunglasses, followed in later years by Saira Banu as well.
Today cat-eyes come in various designs and colors. Vogue amplified this eyewear trend just a few years back with Deepika Padukone as the face of the brand. Most recently in 2019 actress, Priyanka Chopra swayed the fashion in sleek animal print cat eyeglasses.
Various copies of the design were made and soon it hits the high street. This exclusive women’s fashion design is never brittle with time. Even the most classic designs can be worn and yet showcase women’s power in style.
